Individuals get educated and trained with the objective of acquiring requisite knowledge and skills to be successfully and gainfully employed and with a view to accumulating wealth in the process. This devotion of money, time and energy is normally reinforced by their innate urge to achieve financial independence and economic security for themselves and their families during their employment stage and afterwards during retirement period. However, individuals and families fail to manage their finances with requisite understanding and wisdom. This is due to lack of adequate understanding of the complexity of financial planning and benefits accruing from it. This task is not made any easier by the absence of properly trained financial planning and wealth management professionals.

It needs to be emphasized that a proper and well-designed allocation of wealth in the economy would promote economic growth besides providing a fair return to the saver. For this to be achieved, an intelligent understanding of the basic principles of financial planning and wealth management on the part of the public is warranted. In this task financial planners and wealth management planners would be of immense help.
